We recently took our annual family holiday. This year, it was the Pacific Northwest.
We arrived and drove to Seaside, OR and had accommodations right along the sea shore. I was looking forward to the next day, planning to get up early and go for a run along the beautiful flat beach. The time arrived and I got up to a chilly morning, headed to the beach and saw it littered with 4″ diameter holes, everwhere along the waterline! It was like a mine field that had recently been cleared! I began my run, and finally slowed to ask someone who was creting the holes what they were dong. The answer: the were digging for clams. When they are at low tide they are apparently easy to find a few inches under the surface of the sand in the wet layers. Who’s a known? Well, got my run in, dodging all of the holes and felt great after, never really feeling the cold.
We were only in Seaside for 3 nights then had to go to Portland (PDX) where my husband was attending a conference. The hotel had a great gym, almost all of the same equipment that my gym at home has! I still managed to get up early to get in a workout with a friend before the kids got up! But, I must say, I missed the chance to run the beach! Oh well, I knew that the opportunity would be there after the conference because we were going back to Seaside before we had to fly home!
I have made it to the gym most days since our return and today eing the 4th of July, I still managed to have a workout, but stayed in the neighborhood and ran my local route!

We recently drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Along the way we stopped at the site of the ‘94 Olympic Kayaking course and took a few snaps.
Pictured here, is a fire watch tower along the bank of the Ocoee River. The leaves had yet to begin turning at such a low elevation, but up in the mountains, along the Parkway, they were gorgeous. Unfortunately for us, we were in the clouds for the next 3 days. No views, but occasional glimpses of glorious color.
Cheers for now…

Traveling always has its’ pitfalls, like the dread of negotiating your way
through airport security…
This is my first time back in the U.K. in 5 years. My husband and daughter have each been here 3 times since my last visit!
But, now that I am back into photography, is see many things here with a much different eye… I see the sky and the moodiness of the cloud and richness of the blues! When I return home, I am going to give a detailed travelogue of our trip and I will also work on the photographs that I took and upload them to my gallery.
I noted everything in the Moleskin Notebook that my daughter gave me for Christmas!
More …. Soon!

Each year, we take a Winter holiday to see and experience snow and a nice dry cold…. I mean really cold.
We left Huntsville last Wednesday the 27th, and spent the night in Nashville, as we had a very early flight out to Calgary. We were a bit concerned, we had a connection in Denver and they had another blizzard in the forecast. But, we made it through with flying colours, and with all of our luggage. The storm hit Denver much later in the day. Almost everything was shut down again, but they were better prepared than they were for the pre-Christmas storm that wreaked havoc.
We stay at a very kid friendly place in Banff. They have a huge indoor play structure as well as 2 indoor water slides, 2 hot tubs, a kiddie pool, and a smaller pool. Attached is a small grocery store, laundromat, and spirits store.
On New Year’s eve we went over to Lake Louise, and Dan ice skated on the lake while the kids
and I went inside the Chateau for a cup of hot chocolate. Then on New Years Day, we went back to Lake Louise for a Sleigh Ride. It was beautiful. We went most of the way down the lake which is just over a mile long. We watched Ice Climbers preparing to climb a frozen waterfall, then we turned back to the chateau and a snack before the hour drive back to Banff.
I have taken a few snaps, they can be seen with some of my other photos, the link is on the right. But Danny has uploaded a few pictures to his album as well, click here for a look!
I will try to make another post as time permits. See you when we return. The kids are back in school next Monday.
