Changes

Marian November 28th, 2006

I decided to make some changes to the look of my journal. They say change is a constant…. well, here’s to Change!

The fall crud is making it’s way through the family. I’m not sure, but I think Roy was the first to have it, then I got it just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Now, Dan is the latest victim.

Well, January 15TH is the magic day that part of our T-Mobile contract expires…. When that happens we will make the big switch over to Verizon…. T-Mobile alleges that they provide service for the area in which we live, unfortunately we are in a very fringy area… But, not fringy enough for the folks at T-Mobile to let us out of the contract early. My phone’s contract doesn’t expire until late in 2007, but I am leaving them early and taking my phone number with me!

Last weekend we went on the first Photo Safari that we have done in quite some time, I was still suffering from my bout of the crud, but managed to take a few snaps. Damian Figures, one of Dan’s co-workers, went with us. He just got a new camera and wanted to take it for a spin! But, all-in-all, a good time was had by all. We went to the memorial to the students killed and injured in the bus accident on January 20TH. You can see some of Damian’s photographs by clicking here.

If it’s not too cold this weekend, I may take Roy on a mini-Photo Safari! Danny and Kerri will be in Tulsa for the weekend, so we have to find something to keep us occupied since there are no hockey games to go to!

I VOTED

Marian November 8th, 2006

It’s finally over! The endless string of mindless, negative claptrap, that ever dominated the airwaves. In few days all of the political signs littering the I Votedroadways will be gone. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the political season, but near the end it does begin to wear.

Alabama politics, like the politics I grew up with in Oklahoma can be interesting. But, in Alabama, unlike most states, we vote on issues that concern people in counties 200 miles south of us. They should be able to decide their own fate. I saw a sign along the road today that was anti “Home Rule”. I thought to myself, who in their right minds would want to control issues that have nothing to do with and will have no impact on our part of the state.”

Politics can be suspect everywhere. Oklahoma politics was the same. In the early part of the 20th century, before statehood in April of 1907, there was a lot of wrangling over where the new state’s capital who be located. Provisionally, it was in a town about 45 minute north of Oklahoma City called Guthrie. But, there was the group from Oklahoma City who felt the it should be the site of the new capital! Well, one night the Oklahoma City faction took / stole the state seal from it’s place of safe keeping in Guthrie, and moved it to an undisclosed location in Oklahoma City, the Huckins Hotel. The State seal was kept in Oklahoma City until the politicians in Guthrie agreed that the state capital would be Oklahoma City. My point is, no where, will you find honest government,. Cronyism is everywhere…

This is only my humble opine! I’m just glad it’s over. And, maybe we will be lucky and have a Lame Canard” residing at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue!
